 Everyone knows it, eating in Venice is often a little bad for your wallet. If you want to quench your appetite between a walk and another, cicheto (snack) and shadow de vin (wine glass) are classical Venetian.

For who maybe doesn’t know it, the bàcaro is the typical Venetian tavern: with just a few Euros, you get great appetizers.
We went around the city and we chose our ten favorite bàcari (in alphabetical order). Enjoy your tour!

It is the oldest bacaro in Venice. You can find it in San Polo district. You will recognize it by the carboys scattered around, and by copper pots hanging from the top. The kitchen prepares traditional meat and seafood cicheti. But the specialty of the house is called “the stamp”, a mini aquared sandwich filled with crab, shrimp, ham, bull cup and ... some others surprises.

It's a tavern near Campo S.S. Apostles, in a little street hidden from the eyes of tourists. You will pass through a long, narrow entrance and get into this little nice place inspired ancient taverns . Here you’ll get a large assortment of meat or seafood, hot or cold cicheti. Must try the meatballs, sardines in sauce and creamed cod. Good choice of wines. Open for lunch and dinner.

If you are are lucky enough to find a seat, order cod fish with white polenta. Otherwise, if you want to pick something standing, get some meatballs, always hot and crispy. Open for lunch and dinner, always best to book in advance.

Bacarando is set in a small courtyard just steps away from Rialto Bridge. A Delightful restaurant on two floors, it is frequented by young people. The real bacaro is on the first floor: excellent choice of cicheti and wines. Upstairs, the dining room if you want to taste the Venetian specialties and a variety of collectibles rum.

This tavern is a short walk from the Rialto Bridge. They talks about it since 1448. The bacaro serves many cicheti - try the tuna meatballs one-, accompanied bygreat wine. Also try the fried zucchini flowers stuffed with cod, sardines in sauce and stuffed squid. Everythings taste great!

This tavern and wine shop was founded in 1944, now it is own by its generation, and is set in one of the most characteristic districts of Venice. Great choice of cicheti, no seats, as it wants the real ancient Venetian Bacaro. You can also purchase bottles of wine, brandies, whiskeys and liqueurs on display in the room.

Always populated by young Venetians, El Sbarlefo offers affordabletraditional Venetian cicheti. The restaurant is modern and cozy, with a large bar inside and a few tables outside. Try the salt cod with olive oil, as it once was, the medallion of sea bream or the salmon roulade with robiola cheese.

Lino Fritto stands in front of the Rialto fish market. It offers the most original flavors of the city. Young owners at this spot, with not too many cicheti but everyone of excellent quality. It is in the Cannaregio district, in Venice not too much visited by tourists. Choice of wines produced by one of the managers. Tables also outside, tastings and live music from 18 to 20.
